The overall mission of the Water Resources Management Center (CGRE) is to promote, coordinate, and ensure the implementation of a community policy on water resources management in West Africa, in line with the mission and policies of ECOWAS.
Its main responsibilities are to:

Coordinate and implement the decisions of the Ministerial Monitoring Committee on IWRM;

Coordinate the implementation of IWRM projects, programs, and action plans in West Africa;

Monitor and supervise ECOWAS activities in the field of water resources management, particularly through the integration of IWRM into ECOWAS sectoral programs;

Ensure continuous liaison with the members of the Technical Committee of Experts (TCE) and the Sub-Regional Consultative Council on Water Resources (CRCRE);

Maintain regular contact with water sector stakeholders at the national, regional, and international levels;

Advocate for IWRM with Member States, water sector operators, and development partners by fostering their commitment to the process and encouraging their financial participation.
