As part of the preparations for the 1st Edition of the FREAO, a delegation comprising Mr. Bai Mass TAAL, Champion of the 1st Edition of the FREAO; Mr. Kouakou Alexis KOUASSI, Director of the ECOWAS Water Resources Management Centre (WRMC); and Mr. Mahamane Dédéou TOURE, Senior Consultant at the ECOWAS-WRMC, undertook a mission to Dakar from 13 to 14 August 2026.
The delegation met with the Minister of Water and Sanitation of Senegal, current Chair of the Ministerial Monitoring Committee for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in West Africa and current President of AMCOW, as well as representatives of regional institutions and transboundary river basin organizations based in Senegal.
The overall objective of the mission was to present the progress made in organizing the Forum and to define arrangements for the active and high-level participation of the personalities and institutions consulted.
During its stay, the delegation held a series of working meetings with Mr. Demba JALLOW, High Commissioner of OMVG, and his team; Mr. Balla Moussa SIDIBE, Regional Director of IUCN/PACO, and his team; and Dr. Mohamed DIATTA, Senegal’s Sherpa for the organization of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference.
The delegation was also received, on behalf of Minister Cheikh Tidiane DIEYE, by Mr. Amadou Salmone FALL, Chief of Staff, in the presence of Mr. Amadou GUEYE, Technical Adviser, and Dr. Bakary FATY, Director of Water Resources Management and Planning of Senegal.
